When I decided to buy a smart watch, I was pretty sure about my selection. I choose Apple Watch Series 2, the rose gold model with the midnight woven nylon band. It was the highlighted product on Apple’s website and I am not so sure how they managed to keep the product in stock. Fortunately, I got the opportunity to buy one from the SoHo Apple Store. However, Apple has stopped the options for the consumers to make their watch customizable.
The product I bought, the rose gold Apple Watch with pink & midnight nylon band (woven) is no longer available on Apple.com. In fact, buyers also cannot combine their stainless or aluminum steel watch along with nylon Apple Watch band.
Apple Insider was the first to notice this change in their inventory. However, owners can still personalize their Apple Watch straps. In fact this is one of the most amazing features of Apple Watch. Now it is limited to four band colors – white, black, blue and pink. All these watch bands are available in two different sizes 38 mm and 42 mm series. Users can also customize their stainless steel Apple Watch with a leather band. However, it will cost them much.
Watch accessories have the potential to drive huge revenue and Apple has just launched their watch bands in different colors and styles that will entice many smartwatch owners to stock up for sure. This variety of options is likely to make the inventory management tougher. So it is easy to understand that Apple will simplify the combinations of its stock by adding more bands as stand-alone accessories. However, it is really disappointing that Apple Watch buyers would not be able to get the ultimate customize experience. After all, that is what the watch is used to be all about.
